ABC - Always Bank on Chardonnay
Jan 21 2021
“Seven Nights of International Grapes & Wine with Mark Shipway” continues Thursday, January 21st at 7:30 pm on Zoom with Chardonnay - the world’s most famous white grape variety! And while we are still suffering the hangover of California’s mistreatment of this varietal, we can find some amazing bottles and producers in the market. The key to finding the style you like is to consider your preference for unoaked or oaked chardonnay. The other key characteristic is the buttery note and the richness on the palate. This is a trademark of Chardonnay and suggests pairing with dishes that butter features prominently like hot buttered popcorn. Oh ya! Chablis is generally unoaked (unless you are in Grand Cru). Most of these have oak but nicely integrated. Let's talk and taste the most famous and most widely planted white variety, Chardonnay.
Mark will share key insights on Chardonnay where it is grown successfully from continental Europe, the Americas, Australia to South Africa. Discover the unique characteristics of the vines, leaves, and grape bunches of the classic grape varieties and the tasting notes that differentiate Burgundy from Napa, New Zealand from South Africa. We’ll also discover some great value for your pocket book and your cellar.
Thursday evening sessions on Zoom start at 7:30 pm. Each session has a learning and interactive tasting component lasting 1.5 hours in length.
Bring a Bottle
Check it out! We recommend bottles from the BC Liquor Store website. Pick up a bottle to open at the session and share your thoughts on the region, producer and wine style.
