Beaujolais & Beaujolais Nouveau

It’s Beaujolais Nouveau celebration this Thursday! Yes, it’s the third Thursday in November! Under French law, the first wine is released on this date after a successful harvest.

Let’s join France and wine lovers everywhere this Thursday November 19, and raise a glass after opening a bottle of Beaujolais Nouveau. Here in Vancouver that may mean - get out your umbrellas, masks and join the celebration outside as they do in France, at the beach. Fireworks? Maybe not, but if we drink until dawn you will know why!

What to expect from Beaujolais Nouveau? 
Cherry cola, grapey flavoured, light red wine that’s bright and fresh. It’s definitely simple to be consumed now with thoughts only of tomorrow. Gamay Noir is the grape. It bears some similarities to Pinot Noir but can be more accessible now and great with food especially grilled pork, roasted chicken and pulled pork tacos.  Other styles from Beaujolais offer higher quality, longer lived reds with more spice and flavour. It’s still Burgundy’s best value with historically significant producers like George Dubeouf and Louis Jadot.
