Life is short. Drink good wine. That's my email signature. OK maybe I took license ... but it's true. And while I don't drink wine every day, I make time to search for, find and enjoy good wine. Good Wine - What is it?Good wine is, by definition, a wine that exceeds your expectation - both in enjoyment and price. It's that under $20 or $30 and sings like its worth double the price. It's a wine that surprises and delights like a white wine that you normally wouldn't drink or a light red that you would never consider and yet suddenly the experience of aromas and flavours jumping out of the glass and the lingering of these has you wanting more of this kind of wine experience. Good wine is all of this and more. Good Wine - Where to find it?Back in 2017 I was lifting boxes and moving bottles of wine at Legacy Liquor Store. At the time I was convinced that all I needed to do was ask a customer a few questions and I could point them to a bottle that would change their life - good wine. In fact, I got bold about it and started placing neck hangers on bottles that I considered "good wine". My boss did not appreciate the neck hangers - "it looks messy", he said. Maybe it did. But I wanted to help people even when I wasn't at the store to get on board with trying something outside their comfort zone that would change their minds and their wine appreciation. That is why I created this channel - website, Facebook & Instagram. My goal is to help people find and enjoy "good wine". One way to find good wine is to join Good Wine Gal for BC Wine Wednesday on Zoom. Once a month I will host a BC winery and winemaker. These events enlighten and spoil us with intimate knowledge and experience of the Okanagan Valley and Good Wine. Good Wine Recently TastedBelow are some good bottles of wine that I have enjoyed recently. The images below have a brief description and if you click on the picture link will take you to a shop or restaurant that sells this bottle. Moraine Winery - 2020 Pinot NoirLast week I tasted the Moraine Winery Pinot Noir 2020 and it's fantastic. If you like aromatic, red fruit driven styles that have a balance of earth, spice and oak this is for you. So good. You can order directly from the winery. At $35 a bottle it won't last. Dirty Laundry 2020 Sauvignon BlancDirty Laundry Winery has been a steady popular brand for at least a decade. I dropped in to the winery last week and tasted the Sauvignon Blanc - a single vineyard white and it was excellent. For $21 at the winery I think this is a winner. Peak Cellars Sparkling RieslingDo you love bubbles? I do. I recently popped the cork on Peak Cellars Riesling Brut and it was perfect. Dry, fine bubbles and balanced but not austere, it was a perfect aperitivo. This is no longer available at the winery but you may find it at Savon Foods (which offers 10% off 4 bottles and $1 off each bottle if you buy 12 -- best deal I know) or a private wine store in the province. Thanks for reading my latest blog post. If you have any comments please leave them below. You are also welcome to message me directly. If you would like to shop for wine I'd be happy to assist. If you are planning a company event or family gathering and looking for ways to add some adult fun - please consider a tasting - live or on zoom.
Happy sipping and good luck on your hunt for "good wine".
