Meet Jesce Baessler from Corcelettes Estate WineryWhat does it take to transition into the wine business? Meet this charming personality that is the face of Corcelettes Estate Winery in the Similkameen Valley of beautiful British Columbia. Jesce Baessler fell in love 15 years ago and now finds herself deeply involved in the wine industry with husband/partner Charlie. Originally from the great white north, Jesce thought she was going to be a veterinarian, but those plans were forever altered after spending a summer with her mom in Cawston. Now Jesce spends her time between raising a family and hosting guests at the Winery. If you haven't visited the "organic farming capital" of BC, now is the time. Thanks for a great chat Jesce. Like a Phoenix rising from the dust, Corcelettes uses ingenuity to circumnavigate the limitations the industry is facing by introducing a new wine label that highlights wines made from fruit sourced outside the estate. Phoenix Afterglow Rose has a fantastic hue of pink, with bright aromas and flavours of red berries, cherries and rhubarb. It offers freshness with good balance and a bit of power. Corcelettes Estate Vineyards is 40 acres planted on a 150 estate site in this narrow and unique valley that runs east-west as opposed to the Okanagan Valley which runs north-south. The river, not lake provides clues to the unique, rugged terroir in this valley. It has ancient granite bedrock, with rocky alluvial fans, and stony mineral deposits well suited to Bordeaux grape varieties, as well as Syrah, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The wind inhales and exhales daily as the valley warms up in the morning and cools off in the evening. The rock faces that are a predominant feature here, help retain heat well after sunset making it possible for grapes to ripen to their fullest. Like the song by The Eagles, I get a "Peaceful Easy Feeling" in the Similkameen Valley every time I visit. It may be contagious. If you are looking for a weekend getaway or a summer holiday, reach out to Jesce and see if the guest house is available. It'll be a memory maker for all involved. Thank you for reading. One day we will visit your beautiful winery! We are snowbirds from Manitoba and just seem to miss your opening by a day or two each time! Maybe next year…we will keep trying!
