Not to be forgotten why not consider a bottle of Port for the holidays!
It may be one of the truly great wines of the world—certainly one of the most famous. There is no better time of year to open a bottle of Port than in the cold snowy winter. Here are my three Port Wine suggestions for the holiday celebrations with food pairings and various budgets in mind. France is the land of vine and wine! Whether it’s sabering a bottle of champagne or sipping classic Bordeaux, once you start to explore wine you can’t get away from France’s influence. Bordeaux – possibly the most famous red wine region in the world - features red wines made from blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet France, Malbec and Petit Verdot.
Red Wine Recommendations from Good Wine Gal’s 12 Essential Wines of Christmas Guide - Part Two12/10/2020 12 Essential Wines of ChristmasGood Wine Gal’s Guide to the 12 Essential Wines of Christmas was created (politically incorrect and all) to honor my history and offer up some joy in celebration. My forefathers were immigrants from Hungary, Scotland and Italy. My culture was a solid mix of Catholics, Protestants, Atheists, whisky, food and the occasional bottle of wine. It was a blessing and definitely a mixed bag yet delicious and memorable. Why you should read the guideIf you read the “guide” you may recall that I have a formula for wines for the holidays – a formula that suggests there are about a dozen bottles that are essential to capture the main celebrations. The last blog post shared red wine recommendations that bring comfort. This post recommends wines that bring joy! It also pays tribute to the great meals and noshing occasions that require the perfect bottle of wine to accompany the flavours and fun. Formula Still WorksMix of Wines of the Holidays Formula

I'm love producers who are doing things differently for example, following biodynamic, organic and sustainable farming practices. Wines made with little intervention get me excited. I am a geek, I’ll admit and classic food pairings suit me just fine.

Meet Dwight Sick, winemaker at Moraine Winery. There are many reasons why I love the Naramata Bench. It is on this stretch of a road that winds 26 kilometers from Penticton to the village of Naramata, amongst the 40 wineries that reside here - we find Moraine Winery. At only 10 minutes from Penticton, Moraine finds itself in the heart of it all. Here you will find - good wine, a gorgeous lake view and fabulous sunsets. Meet Dwight Sick, winemaker at Moraine Winery. He’s busy selecting tanks and barrels and blending wine for perfection. Dwight is not a newbie to the valley, or to winemaking. In fact after 15 vintages, this veteran winemaker still considers himself a “student”. Recognizing that all wines begin in the vineyard, Dwight believes Moraine has a unique micro climate affect by the lakes influence and this along with the regime of sustainable practices in their elevated vineyard sites will result in award winning, age-worthy wines. |
