Meet Passionate Foodie, Alison Kent

There she was sipping bubbles and talking about her latest recipe project – bone marrow stuffed ravioli with a lemon Beurre Blanc. My brain exploded at the thought of combining my favorite food groups – noodles and flavourful gras. I was immediately transported to Bistro Jeanty in Yountville, where my first order of bone marrow in public was presented on a plate with a spoon and three tall bones standing upright. Since that day, Alison and I have been regularly chatting about food, wine and travel. It usually culminates in an idea that we must pursue, be it collaboration on Instagram live or sharing links about Jacques Pepin or some other food God. Travel plans are often in the mix as planning for eating and sipping our way across the continent is completely motivating. We will travel again so who is with us?

What do you do?
Basically, I live in the Kitchen! At the heart of it, I’m a nourisher. I'm passionate about feeding all the humans I'm responsible for. Pre-COVID! – that included the extended network of friends and family. I’m happiest when I’m cooking and making tasty dishes for the people I love! Cooking is creative. It also feeds into other related passions such as design and innovation. Designing great products that serve eating and entertaining allows me to dive deeply into the form and function of Kitchen Design which is my passion.

How or when did wine find its way into your life?

I fell in love with wine upon arriving in Bordeaux. I ordered my first 'grown up' glasses of wine leaving life with kids behind, and enjoying the company of my girlfriend. We were heading out on a week-long bike ride along the Dordogne River. It was our first and last night as we sipped and ate while the musicians tunes drifted across the courtyard with the sun setting on us. It was layer upon layer of magic - and I fell in love with every bite, every sip and every moment!
Wine just comes along with food so naturally! You can find me sipping with girlfriends on sunny patios for lunch, sitting in a café in Paris, snacking and people watching, or dining on thoughtfully made meals. The further I explore food, the more I want to understand wine. I’m curious how flavours compliment and combine. It's a life-long quest I'm more than more than happy to 'endure'!

Why Good Wine Gal?
I knew the minute I met Barb that we would become great friends - just like food + wine are great friends. I just love her energy and passion for life - and wine! The classes and discussions I've participated in have been so informative. I really feel like I'm forming the base of a good understanding of wine that's aligning quite nicely with my adventures in food. I'm really excited to be a part of the Good Wine Gal community, and it's been great to meet so many like-minded food loving people.
